I’m a driver. How does it work?

If you commute in Brisbane, download the free Zula Driver app on Android or iOS and create an account using the app or on our website. Once your application is successful, we’ll send you ride requests from riders who share a similar route. You always have the choice to accept or decline a request.

What documents do I need to set up an account?

Due to legal requirements, drivers are required to have:

• An Australian Business Number (ABN)

• A full open Australian Driver’s License

• Driver Authorization / Accreditation from the Queensland Department of Transport (must be lodged in person at a Qld Transport Office) - Not required if doing courier only

• Vehicle Road Safety Certificate - Not required if doing courier only

• Comprehensive Vehicle Insurance

You will also need:

• A profile picture

• Australian mobile phone number

• Email address

• Bank details

• Photograph of your vehicle from the front showing the registration number plate

How do I set up my account?

1. Prepare documents as listed above.

2. Submit application.

3. Get approved. Sit back while we assess your application.

4. Start driving once you receive an email confirming your successful application from us.

Are Zula drivers employees?

Zula drivers are independent contractors, and are required to pay their own taxes. For questions about your work rights and ABN, please contact the Australian Taxation Office or the Department of Immigration and Border Protection as required.

How do I get paid?

You will be paid directly to your nominated account every week. These earnings include GST. It is the Driver responsibility to pay the GST to relevant tax authorities.

Can I make money with Zula?

Zula focuses on covering costs, not generating an income. Riders pitch in for petrol + other operating costs at a rate set by Zula, making it a great way for drivers to earn extra income for something they're already doing, plus cover the cost of things like petrol, parking as well as wear and tear on their vehicle, just as you might chip in on a road trip. If you have more than 1 rider in the car the remainder will likely be extra income. A driver can potentially earn up to $15,000 per year doing small trips less than 20kms.

Do I get reimbursed for toll?

No, use of toll road is at the discretion and expense of the driver.

What if I get into an accident while driving with Zula?

Zula is a platform that facilitates commuters to carpool, and is not responsible for any damages or liabilities incurred. All drivers are required to have insurance that supports carpooling before they are eligible to drive with Zula.

I’ve got a two-door car. Can I still be a Zula driver-partner?

Definitely. You’re just limited to picking up one passenger.

Who can drive with Zula?

Anyone who is at least 21 years old, owns a car and an iPhone or Android phone, and commutes in Brisbane can sign up to be a Zula driver-partner.

How much money can I make with Zula?

Zula offers driver's three options to earn money while driving your usual route. You can choose to pick up a passenger (commute), a parcel (courier), or run errands (express), depending on your flexibility. The more complex the task, the more time required, the more amount you make.
